CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Thomas Travis Moore (MCSN: 365864), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Battalion, Eighth Marines, Reinforced, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, 2 - 4 January 1943.
Despite the hazards incident to lone operations in dangerous territory, Private Moore made repeated attacks on hostile positions in advance of his own lines, fighting with such courage and daring that he was able to kill a number of the enemy and, in addition, capture or destroy their weapons and ammunition.
His aggressive and relentless fighting spirit, maintained at great personal risk throughout the execution of many similar voluntary tasks, was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
