Glen McGuire On 27-28 November 1944, Staff Sergeant Glen McGuire was serving with Company C, 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Seventh U.S. Army. On those days, SSG McGuire’s unit was in action against German forces. SSG McGuire’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. SSG McGuire died of wounds sustained from fragments from an artillery shell that landed near his position.
