"Cpl Marvin L. Jones was a member of Boat Team No. 4 that landed on beach Dog White (Omaha) at H+ 5 minutes of D-Day. The boat team completed the initial mission of removing beach obstacles and advanced to the cover of the shingle area. At approximately H+ 45 minutes, four injured men were noticed lying on the sand around the beach obstacles who would be drowned by the rising tide if not removed immediately. When I called for volunteers to get the injured under cover, Cpl Jones immediately offered his aid along with four other enlisted men. Without regard for their own safety, the party moved hastily across approximately two hundred (200) yards of beach which was still under heavy sniper, machine gun, mortar and "88" fire. The wounded men were picked up and carried to the comparative safety of the bank in back of the shingle. In so doing, Cpl Jones was killed instantly by machine gun fire just as the rescue party arrived at the shingle area. The gallantry in action displayed by Cpl Jones was outstanding."
