Glenn Alden Doolittle, Sr.

Colonel, U. S. Air Force

Silver Star

GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, Alaska Defense Command, General Orders No. 24 (1943)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Air Corps) Glenn A. Doolittle, United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy on 30 December 1942.
While leading his flight of medium bombers in an attack against Japanese shipping in Kiska Harbor, Territory of Alaska, Captain Doolittle encountered extremely heavy anti-aircraft fire as well as expected fighter opposition. Regardless of the severity of the enemy fire and despite the fact that his plane was hit repeatedly Captain Doolittle pressed his attack successfully.
His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army Air Forces.
