(Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: Major (Air Corps) Edward Nolen Backus (AFSN: 604-A/0-29600), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the TENTH Air Force, in action in 1942. Major Backus' gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
