GENERAL ORDERS:
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Gerson I. Berman (NSN: 0-139041), United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties in the U.S.S. BATFISH (SS-310), during a War Patrol of that Submarine during World War II. His expert knowledge of equipment for which he was responsible, and his ability to maintain it in a high state of efficiency were of valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer while conducting attacks which resulted in the sinking of a number of enemy vessels. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
