CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private David Abrams (ASN: 20848063), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Battery, 861st Field Artillery Battalion, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 6 April 1945, in the vicinity of Buchhof, Germany.
To provide radio communication for an artillery liaison officer, Private Abrams drove a vehicle over a road covered by enemy machine gun fire. After completing his mission he voluntarily evacuated several wounded men in his vehicle under enemy fire. Private Abrams' gallant action saved the lives of the wounded.
His magnificent courage and outstanding gallantry under fire reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
