Lessley W. Williams
Private 1st Class, U. S. Army
Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, 8th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 228 (October 18, 1945)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Lessley W. Williams (ASN: 38641350), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a member of the Medical Detachment, 2d Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action on 6 April 1945, in the vicinity of Siegen, Germany.
When several men were wounded during an attack against fierce enemy resistance, Private Williams, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, exposed himself to the intense small arms and machine gun fire in order to administer first aid to two wounded men. Treating another casualty in an exposed position, Private Williams, despite direct fire from two enemy machine guns and riflemen, carried the wounded man 75 yards to a place of safety.
Private Williams' outstanding courage and untiring devotion to duty were an inspiration to all who observed him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
