Pat Bryan Kennedy
Private 1st Class, U. S. Army
Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, 42d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 153 (September 1, 1945)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Pat B. Kennedy (ASN: 18178049), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 242d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 11 April 1945 near Schweinfurt, Germany.
During a heavy artillery concentration, Private Kennedy was wounded in the head by a shell fragment and suffered immediate blindness. Despite the almost unbearable pain, his thoughts were of the wounded men he had been treating. Summoning an uninjured rifleman, he gave instructions on how to treat each man as the type of wound was described to him.
Private Kennedy's gallant action despite his own incapacitation resulted in giving the casualties first aid on the spot.
