CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in Lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Claude A. Hudson (38284430), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 13 April 1945.
Sergeant Hudson voluntarily led a detail of men through intense machine gun and small arms fire to the rear of a row of concrete houses which were the center of enemy resistance. He and another man, succeeded in reaching a position behind the enemy, fired for one half hour, killing eight of the enemy and capturing eleven, thereby completely overrunning the enemy and silencing their fire.
Staff Sergeant Hudson's gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
