CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) George F. Adams, Jr. (ASN: 0-1296151), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, *** Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 6 April 1945, in the vicinity of West Tunmen, Germany.
On 6 April 1945, a numerically superior enemy force surrounded First Lieutenant Adams' platoon outpost, threatening to annihilate the soldiers holding the position. Quickly launching a counter-attack with only ten men, First Lieutenant Adams daringly led a frontal assault on a German-occupied building while under heavy fire, killing a bazooka gunner who was about to fire into his squad and taking two prisoners. The enemy patrol confronted by First Lieutenant Adams' bold, unexpected maneuver, fled in utter confusion.
The gallant, forceful leadership and intrepid combat skill displayed by First Lieutenant Adams reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
