CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Robert R. Morris (ASN: 38125006), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in action on 3 and 4 October 1944 in the vicinity of Maizieres les Metz, France.
During the night, Technical Sergeant Morris, Platoon Leader, and two machine gun squads were isolated from the rest of the company by intense enemy fire of all calibers. At risk of his life, Technical Sergeant Morris reorganized his men into rifle squads, held off the enemy throughout the night, and personally led a counterattack the next morning that drove off the enemy in disorganized retreat.
His gallantry was in accordance with high military traditions.
