Garland B. Taylor On 23 March 1945, then-First Lieutenant Garland B. Taylor was serving with the 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army. On that day, 1LT Taylor’s unit was in action against German forces while crossing the Rhine River during the Invasion of Germany. 1LT Taylor’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.
