CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private] Olus E. Price (ASN: 6292828), United States Army Air Forces, for a singularly meritorious act of essential service while serving with the 435th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 19th Bombardment Group (Heavy), Allied Air Forces in the Southwest Pacific Area, over Rabaul, New Britain, on 19 June 1942.
Sergeant Price acted as side gunner in a B-17E airplane which was attacked by fourteen Zero aircraft. His coolness and deliberate fire were instrumental in keeping his side of the plane clear of the enemy. During the action, he shot down one enemy fighter in flames. The courage displayed by Sergeant Price on all missions has been worthy of the highest standards of the Service.
