GENERAL ORDERS:
Commander in Chief, Pacific: Serial 260 (February 1, 1945)
Courageous and aggressive in the face of terrific Japanese opposition, Private First Class Williams repeatedly volunteered as scout for his platoon during cleaning up operations on isolated points of enemy resistance behind the front lines.
Although mortally wounded on 7 July while preceding the others into a thickly wooded area he steadfastly refused medical aid and accurately pointed out the exact location of the enemy weapon to his platoon leader.
By his outstanding initiative and resolute devotion to duty in the face of grave peril, Private First Class Williams contributed materially to the success of a vital mission.
His unselfish spirit and valiant conduct throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
