CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Lloyd G. Wiggins (MCSN: 347823), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while a member of the First Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces during hostile attack on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands on the night of 14 - 15 September 1942.
With utter disregard for his own personal safety Private Wiggins volunteered to guide an ammunition truck over a ridge then under violent enemy machine gun fire.
Assuming control of the truck he risked his life to deliver vital ammunition to hard pressed defending forces enabling them to repel the enemy from a highly strategic position.
