Robert Neil Page
Captain, U. S. Marine Corps
Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Robert N. Page (MCSN: 0-8463), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while attached to the Third Marine Raider Battalion during a landing on Puruata Island, Solomon Islands on 1 November 1943. Seriously wounded during an attack on a strongly defended enemy position and realizing that further advance was impossible in the face of withering fire from mortar and automatic weapons, Captain Page expeditiously withdrew his two platoons to a place of safety. Steadfastly refusing to be evacuated he reorganized his men and led them in a decisive second attack which resulted in the destruction of many of the enemy and the successful neutralization of hostile resistance to our occupation of the island. Captain Page's great personal valor, superb leadership and unswerving devotion to duty throughout this crucial engagement were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
