Captain, U. S. Marine Corps
Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
Commander in Chief, Pacific: Serial 4020
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Lyle K. London (MCSN: 0-10192), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company G, Second battalion, Twenty-fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Tinian, Marianas Islands, 24 July 1944.
Although painfully wounded by an enemy rifle bullet, Captain London refused evacuation and, remaining with his men, directed his company in forcing the enemy from their strongly defended positions. Despite the painful nature of his wound, he continued in command of his men throughout the operation. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Captain London and the United States Naval Service.
