CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant Charles F. Levy (MCSN: 0-26973), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Member of an Assault Unit of Underwater Demolition Team Four, during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific War Theater, from 17 to 21 July 1944.
Participating in the assault and capture of an enemy-held island, Second Lieutenant Levy braved enemy rifle, machine-gun and mortar fire to prepare the way for the operations of combat troops and, by his courage and skill, contributed materially to the success of this hazardous mission. His fighting spirit and zealous devotion to duty throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
