William J. Carr
Private 1st Class, U. S. Marine Corps
Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force Pacific: Serial 99714
When he and another Marine were seriously wounded while advancing to a forward position, Private First Class Carr made his way alone to the Company Command Post to report the situation rather than call for stretcher bearers and endanger their lives.
Proceeding to the aid station for treatment and finding the corpsmen fully occupied with other casualties, he refused morphine to alleviate his pain and immediately returned through intense enemy fire to aid his wounded comrade. Again braving heavy fire, he succeeded in carrying the Marine to safety and treatment. By his initiative, gallant spirit and courageous devotion to duty, Private First Class Carr upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
