Glynn H. Bunch
Corporal, U. S. Marine Corps
Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force Pacific: Serial 79496 (September 9, 1945)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glynn H. Bunch (MCSN: 936792), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company I, Third Battalion, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 5 May 1945.
Locating the cave from which his company was being subjected to heavy hostile machine-gun and rifle fire, Private First Class Bunch unhesitatingly worked his way forward with his Platoon Leader and, entering the cave, killed two of the four occupants in hand-to-hand combat.
Emerging from the cave and noticing the muzzle of a 47-mm. gun protruding from an adjacent excavation, he entered this cave and destroyed the enemy weapon. His indomitable fighting spirit and courageous devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
