Private 1st Class, U. S. Marine Corps

Silver Star

GENERAL ORDERS:
Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force Pacific: Serial 6887 (January 24, 1945)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Jack A. Boucher (MCSN: 363158), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Weapons Company, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Marianas Islands, 16 June 1944.
Remaining at his post as the only survivor of a 37-mm. gun crew, Private First Class Boucher loaded and fired the gun until all the ammunition was exhausted. Organizing a gun crew from riflemen in the immediate vicinity, he replenished the ammunition and restored the gun to action. By his heroic action, he assisted materially in repelling an enemy counterattack and in saving a vital portion of the line. His courage, initiative and devotion to duty throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
