CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Don L. Bishop (MCSN: 379412), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Weapons Company, Twenty-Second Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Parry Islands, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands, 22 February 1944.
Advancing alone in the face of heavy grenade and machine gun fire which had pinned down his section, Corporal Bishop destroyed an enemy machine gun nest, silencing its devastating fire and allowing our troops to move forward from the beach. His courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
