CITATION:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Machinist's Mate Paul Mobray Anderson (NSN: 299999), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Chief-of-the-Boat in the U.S.S. SPEARFISH (SS-190), during the THIRD War Patrol of that Submarine in the Southwest Pacific Area, from 27 March 1942 to 20 May 1942.
His industry, skill and able supervision in maintaining a high state of readiness in the Control Room at all times, were of invaluable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting attacks which resulted in the sinking of two enemy ships totaling 10,000 tons, and in making a daring rescue of many military personnel from an island fortress under constant enemy attack.
