Silver Star

GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 198 (August 3, 1945)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant Preston A. Ideus (ASN: 0-2011877), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 317th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 10 April 1945 in Germany.
At Alach, Germany, Lieutenant Ideus volunteered to go to the aid of wounded men still under fire from a hostile machine gun. With utter disregard for personal safety Lieutenant Ideus advanced over the exposed terrain and despite the increasing intensity of enemy fire administered aid and evacuated the casualties over the same hazardous route. His initiative, outstanding courage, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
