Silver Star
GENERAL ORDERS:
Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 105 (April 17, 1945)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Edward H. Boring (ASN: 38203361), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 25 December 1944 in Luxembourg.
On that date, Technician Fifth Grade Boring, an Aid Man, was evacuating battle casualties near Kehmen, Luxembourg. Receiving word that an officer was wounded in the town he drove his vehicle to the injured man without hesitation despite the severe small arms and mortar fire directed at him.
Disregarding the danger to himself, Technician Fifth Grade Boring placed the officer and another casualty, whom he located, on his vehicle and through heavy enemy fire evacuated them to safety. His courage, initiative, and supreme devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
