Charles H. Hollingsworth
Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army

On 30 December 1941, then-Sergeant Charles H. Hollingsworth was serving with Battery E, 60th Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft).

On that day, SGT Hollingsworth’s unit was in action against Japanese forces in the Philippine Islands. SGT Hollingsworth’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.

Sergeant Charles H. Hollingsworth (ASN: 18029100), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Battery E, 60th Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft), in action against enemy forces on 30 December 1941, in the Philippine Islands. Sergeant Hollingsworth's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
