Macario J. Gallardo, Jr. On 28 October 1944, PVT Macario J. Gallardo, Jr. was serving with 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Seventh U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations. On that day, PVT Gallardo’s unit was in action against German forces during the Rhineland Campaign. PVT Gallardo’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day, at the cost of his life, earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.
