Andrew Roy Cheek In May 1944, then-Major Andrew Roy Cheek was serving with the 760th Tank Battalion, Fifth U.S. Army. From 14 through 26 May, MAJ Cheek's unit was in action against German forces. MAJ Cheek's courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross. Following World War II, Cheek remained in the military and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Army with the rank of Colonel. Major Cheek's outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
