Quincy E. Gillian On 28 July 1943, Private Quincy E. Gillian was serving with Service Company, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in the South Pacific Area. On that day, PVT Gillian’s unit was in action against Japanese forces at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, while assisting the 43rd Infantry Division in taking the Munda airfield in heavy fighting. PVT Gillian’s courageous actions and extraordinary heroism that day, at the cost of his life, earned him the U.S. Army's second highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross.
