William N. Small
Admiral, U.S. Navy

William N. Small graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1948 and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy.

As a Vice Admiral, he served as Commander of the Sixth Fleet from July 1979 to June 1981.

On 1 July 1981, Small was promoted to the rank of four-star Admiral and named as Vice Chief of Naval Operations (VCNO). In 1983, he was assigned as Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Naval Forces Europe (CINCUSNAVEUR) and Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe (CINCSOUTH).

Admiral Small retired from the Navy in 1985.
