Biography: | ||||
Kyle W. Burns was the son of Robert and Jocelyn Burns. Kyle's father began taking him fishing while he was still in diapers. He loved the outdoors and sports. He went camping, rock climbing, caving, played baseball, soccer and also ran track. At the age of seven, he learned to skate so he could play hockey with a friend and he played for 12 years. He was a die-hard sports fan who would paint letters on his chest and sit in 40 degrees below zero weather to watch a game. In high school he was an average student who had a little bit of a problem with authority. So when he told his parents at age 17 that he was going to enlist in the Marines after graduation, they were against it at first. But Kyle was insistent about it and enlisted In the U.S. Marine Corps after receiving his high school diploma. He left for Basic Training in June 2002, a month after graduation. The Marines turned out to be a wonderful thing for him. He grew up, got his sense of humor back, and loved being a Marine. On 11 November 2004, LCpl Burns was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, CA, but currently in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On his second deployment, Kyle wasn't super excited about being back in Iraq for the second time but knew it was his job and it was what he loved to do. He was already thinking of staying in the Marines. On that day, Burns was killed in an explosion by enemy action in Falluyah, An Anbar province, Iraq. Burial LCpl Kyle W. Burns is buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO, in Plot: S, 0, 5891-A. |
