Martin Dean Childress
Specialist Four, U.S. Army

Martin Dean Childress was born on 7 February 1944 in Pruden, TN, the 8th child and youngest son of John Henry and Shirley Jane Gibson Childress.

Dean had one son, Troy.

On 12 August 1969, Specialist Four Martin Dean Childress was serving with D Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, in Binh Long Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP4 Childress was killed in action when he sustained wounds from artillery, rocket or mortar fire. His body was recovered.
