Stephen Andrew Childers

Captain, U.S. Army

Stephen Andrew Childers was born on 14 March 1940 and was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, Class of 1963.

On 19 January 1967, Captain Stephen Andrew Childers was serving as Commander of C Company, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Captain Childers directed some of his men to attempt the rescue of a group of women and children apparently being held hostage in a cave. When his men fell back, wounded, he entered the cave himself and was killed by small arms fire. His body was recovered.
