Walter John Carney was born on 20 December 1948.

On 13 June 1969, Specialist Four Walter John Carney was serving with B Company, 52nd Signal Battalion, 2nd Signal Group, 1st Signal Brigade, in Dinh Tuong Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP4 Carney died in a non-hostile accident. His body was recovered.
