On 15 April 1971, Private Barry Edward Brown was serving with C Company, 40th Signal Battalion, 160th Signal Group, 1st Signal Brigade in Gia Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, Private Brown was injured in a non-hostile action; an accidental homicide. He was declared dead on 17 April 1971.
