James Louis Bishop was born on 27 February 1946 in Wichita, KS.

On 23 June 1969, SP4 James Louis Bishop was serving with C Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division in Thua Thien Province in South Vietnam.

On that day, SP4 Bishop was killed in action when he sustained wounds from small arms fire. His body was recovered.
