Thomas Edison Baumgardner, Jr. was born on 23 December 1950 in Fort Worth, TX.

On 7 June 1971, SP4 Thomas Edison Baumgardner, Jr. was serving as an infantryman with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP4 Baumgardner was killed in action by an explosive device.
