On 1 April 1969, Lance Corporal Lawrence Theodore Andrews, was serving with HQ Battery, 4th Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III MAF, in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, LCpl Andrews was killed in action when he sustained wounds from an explosive device.
