Biography:

Thomas Oliver Ahlberg
Sergeant, U.S. Army

On 4 May 1970, Specialist Four Thomas Oliver Ahlberg was serving with A Company, 101st Aviation Battalion, 101st Aviation Group, 101st Airborne Division in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, he was killed when the helicopter in which he was a passenger crashed due to a non-hostile action.

He was the Crew Chief of the UH-1H Huey #68-16244. They were on a night time flare drop mission when during the mission a flare malfunction caused a fire onboard. As they took emergency measures they crashed mid-air with a AH-1G, Cobra which was below them. Both helicopters crashed and burned, killing 7 servicemen. His body was recovered.

He received a posthumous promotion to Sergeant.
