Aaron Ward Aaron Ward was born on 10 October 1851 in Philadelphia, PA. Ward graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1867, and rose to the rank of Rear Admiral. As a Lieutenant, he commanded the warship USS Wasp during the Spanish-American War. From April 1911 until August 1912, he commanded divisions of the Atlantic Fleet, using as his command flagships, first the battleship USS Minnesota, then the battleship USS Florida. In the years prior to and during World War II, the U.S. Navy named two destroyers for Admiral Ward (DD-132 and DD-483). Death and Burial Rear Admiral Aaron Ward died on 5 July 1918. He is buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. |
