CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Lorenza C. Coats (ASN: 3509173), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 56th Infantry Regiment, 7th Division, A.E.F., near Rembercourt, France, October 9 - 11 November 1918.
As company and platoon runner, Private Coats worked tirelessly, being on duty almost constantly both day and night, and carrying numerous messages, under enemy machine-gun and artillery fire.
