Corporal, U. S. Army
Distinguished Service Cross
GENERAL ORDERS:
War Department, General Orders No. 46 (1919)
CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Fred W. Dallas (ASN: 2811224), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 360th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, A.E.F., near the Bois-de-Argonne, France, 2 November 1918.
Although his arm was shattered by a machine-gun bullet, Corporal Dallas refused to go to the rear, but continued to advance under extremely heavy machine-gun fire until he received two more wounds, one piercing his leg and making it impossible for him to advance further. While crawling to the rear he encountered another wounded man, and assisted him to the dressing station.
On 23 April 1919 awarded the French Croix de Guerre with gilt star.
