CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private John A. Doogs (ASN: 653868), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 2d Engineers, 2d Division, A.E.F., near Medeah Ferme, France, 9 October 1918.
Crawling forward under heavy machine-gun fire, Private Doogs assisted in bringing a wounded comrade to safety.

On 16 May 1919 awarded the French Croix de Guerre with gilt star.
