CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Robert A. Gaston (ASN: 1487711), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, A.E.F., near St. Etienne, France, 8 October 1918.
Corporal Gaston led three attempts to take an enemy machine-gun nest under enfilade fire. In the final attempt he was wounded, but continued to advance until he was killed by machine-gun fire.

On 28 February 1919 awarded the French Croix de Guerre with palm (Posthumously).
