The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant George C. His platoon becoming disorganized by enemy artillery fire, Sergeant Jackson halted his men, reorganized them under the heavy fire and resumed the advance. Later he borrowed an automatic rifle from one of the men in his platoon, and, firing it from his hip, advanced on an enemy machine-gun, killing two members of the crew and capturing another.
