CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Wallis J. Moore, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 132d Machine-Gun Battalion, 36th Division, A.E.F., near St. Etienne, France, 8 October 1918.
Captain Moore, although wounded by shrapnel, refused to go the rear, and proceeded to reorganize portions of three infantry platoons, whose officers had become casualties, thus protecting the right flank of the 141st Infantry. He went to the rear only after he had been severely gassed.

On 28 February 1919 awarded the French Croix de Guerre with palm.
