CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Roy Yaeger (ASN: 2253610), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 321st Machine-Gun Battalion, 82d Division, A.E.F., near Pont-a-Mousson, France, 12 September 1918.
Corporal Yaeger, with his brother, Private Louis Yaeger, remained at an advanced position in the face of heavy machine-gun fire and rifle fire from the enemy, and, by effective use of their machine-gun and pistols, covered the withdrawal of the infantry, inflicting serious losses on the enemy and refusing to retire until ordered to do so.
