CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private John Samuel Weimer (ASN: 2225018), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 47th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division, A.E.F., near the Vesle River, France, 10 August 1918. While on outpost duty, Private Weimer learned that a soldier from another organization was lying wounded in a shell hole 200 yards away. With another member of his squad Private Weimer voluntarily went through machine-gun and sniper fire, and carried the wounded man to shelter.

On 14 April 1919 awarded the Italian Croce de Guerre.
