CITATION:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Bergen X. Waldrop (ASN: 1490676), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 142d Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, A.E.F., near St. Etienne, France, 8 October 1918.
While leading his platoon in an advance in the face of heavy machine-gun and shell fire, Sergeant Waldrop was wounded, but refused to go to the rear, continuing his advance until the objectives had been attained.

On 28 February 1919 awarded the French Croix de Guerre with palm. (Posthumously).
